Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo. Iconic brands that strike a chord with petrolheads across the globe. Few automotive ‘families’ can claim to field as enviable a stable of brands as FIAT. Modern Classics magazine - the only publication dedicated to hero cars of the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s - brought its favourite Italian machinery to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery this year.
Representing Ferrari was the beautiful 308, which also stars on the cover of the December issue. Alongside cover stars including the 328, 348 and 355 this mid-engine V8 represents the final Maranello dream that’s still just in reach.
At the other end of the price scale, there was the super-rare Fiat Tipo Sedicivalvole that’s one of just six remaining on UK roads. This ‘Eighties hot-hatch powerhouse shares its engine block with the Lancia Delta Integrale and is every bit as characterful.
Italian cars are all about passion and they naturally have a strong following, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still grab a bargain – say hello to the beautiful Maserati 4200, which is currently grossly undervalued.
Finally, Modern Classics is a magazine put together by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, so there was a chance to get up close and personal with the assistant editor’s Alfa Romeo 147 GTA. To find out more about Modern Classics visit - www.modernclassicsmagazine.co.uk
