Silverstone Auctions returns to the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, with one of the most high profile classic car auctions in the UK. Once again more than 100 classic cars, modern sports cars, historic motorbikes, luxury watches and automobilia will go under the hammer over two days on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 November.
2016’s sale was a phenomenal success. Silverstone Auctions broke several world records and achieved its best ever result at the show, with 80 per cent of the vehicles on offer successfully sold, with a total sales value of £5.8million.
With cameras fixed firmly on the auction rostrum, Silverstone Auctions were joined by Channel 4, Ant Anstead, Phil Glenister and the team from ‘For the Love of Cars’ to see the very special 1958 ex-Chris Barber Lotus Elite Series I sell for a new record auction price of £121,500. The car was sold to rapturous applause for more than £40,000 over its lower estimate.
This year the auction will play host to the finale of Lancaster Insurance Charity Build Off initiative, launched earlier this year at the Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show. The new initiative sees two classic car ‘heavyweights’ Mike Brewer and Ant Anstead going head to head in a restoration project. Mike will be working on a 1989 Ford Escort XR3i and Ant is building from scratch a 1950s inspired Grand Prix race car. The finished projects will be going under the hammer with all proceeds going to their chosen charities.
