The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery, is honoured to celebrate many automotive anniversaries when it returns to Birmingham’s NEC from 10-12 November.
Visitors to the ‘season finale’ will be able to enjoy 30 years of the Lamborghini Club UK while the Studebaker Owners’ Club UK is approaching it’s 21st birthday. As part of this year’s ‘Family Ties’ theme, their display will feature a 1937 Dictator Cruising Sedan that was the wedding car of Greg Diffen, the club’s magazine editor. For the many devotees of 1950s sports cars, the Dellow Register will be bringing one of only three surviving 1957 Mark 6s, the company’s ultra-ambitious alloy-bodied tourer.
The UK TRI Chevy Owners’ Group will celebrate 60 years of the ‘57 Chevrolet, the car forever associated with rock and roll, and 1957 was also the year that Fiat launched ‘La Nuova 500’. This was the car that epitomises the post-war Italian Economic Miracle and today it is one of the most recognisable – and desirable classics in the UK. The stand of the Fiat 500 Enthusiast’s Club GB will naturally pay full tribute to this iconic car. Any enthusiast of classics of the 1970s and 1980s should make for www.leylandprincess.co.uk stand who will be showcasing a complete line-up of the early ‘Wedge’, including the now nearly extinct entry-level version, paying homage to the original version which ceased production 35 years ago.
The Cortina Mk. 3 Owners’ Club has been helping to preserve Dagenham’s famous ‘Coke Bottle’ shaped saloon for a quarter of a century and the undoubted star of their display will be ‘Project Ruby’. This is a very handsome 1971 GXL that was found in a very sorry condition in a breaker’s yard and has undergone an extensive restoration over the past two years. Other Ford anniversaries being celebrated at the NEC are the Mk.1 Capri Register commemorating 45 years of the very desirable and short-lived ‘facelift’ version and the Fiesta Supersport Register remembering four decades of the Fiesta being officially sold in the UK. They plan to bring one of the few surviving Mk.1 Supersports, the model that was the test bed for the XR2, to the show. Whatever your tastes in cars, this promises to be an unforgettable three days that celebrate the time, effort and dedication of countless volunteers in the classic car movement.
