Standard Motor Club’s Golden Jubilee Celebration
)
This year marks a monumental milestone as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Standard Motor Club, founded in 1974. To honor this special occasion, we’re showcasing some truly iconic vehicles that embody the club's rich history and passion for Standard cars.
Taking center stage is the beautifully restored 1930 Standard Big Nine, a car once owned by the club’s founder and Member Number 1, the late David Hanson. It’s a stunning tribute to the early days of the club and a nod to our roots. Alongside it will be a recently revived 1937 Standard Flying 20 V8, brought back to the road by its latest owner. This car's previous owner was also among the first members when the club began, making it a piece of living history that connects past and present.
To further commemorate our legacy, we’re revisiting the club’s participation in the inaugural Classic Motor Show back in 1984. We’ll feature two cars that pay homage to the original Standard marque recreation from the 1984 Motor Show— a Vanguard Beetleback saloon and a Vanguard Estate Car. Both of these models are near-perfect examples of the original 1950s specifications, embodying the timeless charm of the era.
To add to the nostalgia, we’ll also display a Hall of Fame featuring early club members, highlighting the community that has kept the spirit of Standard alive and thriving for half a century.
