Gilbern Owners Club

"Gilbern GT 1964 - Its first owner was a Vet who progressively modified the engine and reported on his exploits 4 years later in of all places Veterinary News - not the most widely read of publications for motoring! In 2020 Martin Holmes, a well known Rallying journalist, competitor, and prolific photographer passed away and his vast collection of photos came up for action including one of this car CPB 43B with the first owner at the wheel competing in the early 1960's - wearing a shirt and tie of course. It was rebuilt in mid 1990's and resprayed in 2021.Best of both worlds - used for pottering around Alan's Veterinary practice in Surrey during the week and racing at weekends. The current owner of 25 years has a car with his initials on it since new and gets to enjoy a Welsh made classic car too.
Gilbern Genie 1968 - instead of the standard Ford 3 litre V6 it was rebuilt in 2011 with a Mercedes 190 2.3 16v engine, the one they call the Cosworth. This car is successfully rallied and hill climbed. Best of both worlds - a new lease of life - a modern Mercedes engine but in a classic car.
Gilbern Invader mk2 Estate 1971 - this is the only model Gilbern offered as an estate. The car is affectionately known as Fern because the car was found derelict in 2020 with ferns growing out of it. It will hopefully be restored in time for the show in November! Best of both worlds -from mobile greenhouse back to car.
Gilbern Invader mk4, otherwise known as a Princess. In around 1973 the Welsh police force followed a speeding Gilbern Invader and they were more intrigued by the car than giving it a speeding ticket. However the standard Invader mk3 was not big enough for all the police paraphernalia so Gilbern started to develop a long wheelbase version of the mk3. Unfortunately Gilbern folded in 1974 before the prototype car could be completed and the current owner completed the car some years later. It is the only one in existence. Best of both worlds - what Gilbern might have produced had they survived for longer."
