2.0-litre MPI Discovery (1993)
Developed under the codename Project Jay in the late 1980s and launched in 1989, the Land Rover Discovery bridged the gap between the rugged Defender and the luxurious Range Rover. It offered true off-road ability, seven-seat practicality and everyday comfort — the best of both worlds.
Our stand celebrates the Discovery’s evolution and its rightful place as a classic in its own right, while showcasing how capable it remains today — from towing and load-lugging to tackling rough terrain.
The display includes a rare prototype 5-door Discovery from 1990 (early production models were initially 3-door only); a 1993 Honda Crossroads — a rebadged Discovery sold in Japan as part of a Rover-Honda collaboration; and a 1993 2.0-litre MPI Discovery, a short-lived, fleet-friendly model designed to meet UK tax thresholds.
Two of the vehicles on show will demonstrate the Discovery’s dual personality — one set up as a practical family 7-seater, the other with the seats folded to reveal its generous load capacity. Proof, once again, that the Discovery truly delivers the best of both worlds.
