1972 Saab Sonett III v4 model

SAAB Enthusiast Club Stand: 5-950
1972 Saab Sonett III v4 model

A rare example of Saab’s distinctive approach to sports car design, this 1972 Sonett III is one of the final developments of the Sonett line.

All Sonett III models were left-hand drive and based on a modified Saab 96 V4 floorpan, with the striking body designed by Italian designer Sergio Coggiola. Under the bonnet is Ford’s 1,698cc Cologne V4 ‘Taunus’ engine, with this example featuring a number of thoughtful modifications including a Weber 32/36 DGV carburettor, electric fuel pump and custom exhaust producing around 80bhp.

Further upgrades have been made with usability in mind, including improved access to the hydraulic fluid reservoirs and radiator expansion tank, a custom steel engine-bay brace, removable inner-wing panels and alloy rocker covers. The car also features a Motolita steering wheel and Ronal 10-spoke wheels.

Presented in Swedish yellow and blue as part of a celebration of 60 years of Saab engineering, this Sonett III will be making its NEC debut, having never previously been exhibited at the show.
