Daimler SP250 Owners Celebrate Heritage, Community, and the Open Road

Latest Global Survey Highlights Enduring Passion for Britain’s Distinctive V8 Roadster

October 2025 — The Daimler SP250 Owners Club has released the results of its latest global survey, revealing a deeply committed community united by a love of heritage, camaraderie, and the unique driving experience of one of Britain’s most characterful 1960s sports cars.

More than 200 SP250 enthusiasts from around the world took part, sharing insights into why they drive, preserve, and treasure these rare classics — and how they plan to keep them on the road for years to come.

Heritage Over Hype

Preserving motoring history was ranked as the number-one motivator for ownership, with almost half of respondents giving it the highest importance. Other top reasons included the joy of meeting like-minded enthusiasts (31%), tinkering and restoration (36%), and the thrill of the SP250’s distinctive 2.5-litre Turner V8. Emotional connection, unique styling, and individuality in an increasingly standardised car market also featured strongly.

When asked about converting their SP250 to electric power, 71% opposed the idea outright, with a further 22% unlikely to consider it. Concerns included practicality, cost, and — above all — preserving authenticity.

A Keeper’s Car

The SP250 is no short-term fling.

  • 30% of owners have had their car for more than 25 years, with some reporting continuous ownership of over 60 years.

  • 75% have no plans to sell within the next two years, and only 8% are considering parting with their SP250 in that time frame.

  • Most (89%) own just one, but a handful of collectors reported owning up to 14 examples.

Owners frequently have other classics in their garage too — 69% own at least one other, with some reporting collections of more than a dozen cars.

    Miles of Memories

From local runs to epic tours, SP250s are true driver’s cars. Owners reported single trips ranging from a modest 3 miles to an impressive 6,500 miles. Touring holidays and cross-continental adventures are part of the car’s DNA, with several owners covering more than 3,000 miles in one outing.

Market Outlook

While opinions vary, the community remains optimistic about the SP250’s place in the market.

  • 41% expect values to remain stable over the next five years,

  • 26% foresee increases, and

  • 33% predict some decline.

Compared with contemporaries such as the Austin-Healey 3000, Triumph TRs, MGB, and Lotus Elan, 72% expect the SP250 to perform similarly, with 19% predicting it will do better — thanks to its rarity (only around 2,800 built), rust-free GRP body, and distinctive engineering.

    If Not the SP...

Even when asked to imagine a replacement, loyalty ran deep. “Another Daimler SP250” was the top choice, followed by the Austin-Healey 3000 and Sunbeam Tiger. Many said they simply could not imagine parting with their car for any other classic.

    A Living Legacy

Survey responses were full of personal stories — from first rides in the 1960s to restoring barn finds “to aircraft standards.” For many, the SP250 is more than just a vehicle: it’s a lifelong companion, a work of art, and a passport to a welcoming community.

As a club spokesperson put it:

“The SP250 has always been a car for people who know exactly what they want. Its rarity, engineering, and unmistakable style mean it has a secure place in the classic car scene — and in the hearts of its owners.”
