Ford Puma R611 HOO (R20 FMS)
The Ford Puma WRC Concept was built in early 1997 by Ford’s Motorsport division at Boreham. It holds a special place in history as the last 4x4 rally car developed at Boreham, intended to succeed the Escort WRC.
At the time, Ford’s WRC future was undecided, so Boreham developed the Puma prototype months before the road car was launched in September 1997. Eventually, M-Sport secured the contract to run Ford’s WRC programe and chose the Focus.
The Puma WRC concept was first unveiled at the 1998 Autosport Show, before being used by Ford for demonstrations and displays during 1998 and 1999. Discussions about selling shells as Escort Cosworth replacements never materialised.
Ford Motorsport then shifted focus to the Puma S1600 programme, adapting styling cues originally developed for the WRC concept. Only one Puma WRC concept was ever built. It left Ford Motorsport in 2001 and disappeared from public view — until now.
The vehicle was recovered from France in 2021 by Charlie Jackson, who, with the help of his father Graham, fully restored the car to its original condition. In mid-2025, the car has fiinally re-emerged, offering enthusiasts the chance to appreciate one of the best-looking rally cars that sadly never got its chance to shine on the world stage.
