The late Brian Birch organised the Standard Motor Club display at the NEC for many years and was the owner of this fine 1953 Standard Vanguard Phase 2 which he restored to its original metallic green finery after acquiring it from a Birmingham Bomb site car dealer in the 1970s.When it was on the Club stand he was often pressed to sell it but never would. He even had offers from fans of the actor Johnny Depp on account of its DEP442 numberplate. The car has not been seen for a long time as latterly Brian used to use his smaller 1957 Standard Companion Estate Car which was more manageable for him to drive to events as his health declined.Happily his family found a good home for it after Brian's passing with Club member Nigel Woodward-Sheath where it now shares a home with Nigel's older but mechanically very similar Phase 1 " Beetleback" saloon. The car was very well known within the Club and will make a welcome return to the Show in November.
