Now in it’s fourth year, in that relatively short time this show it has established itself as one of the premier classic vehicle events in Wales with many exhibitors, traders and visitors coming over the Prince of Wales (Severn) Bridge to attend with many camping on site the nights leading up to the show, taking the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the Gower Peninsula only a few miles away and enjoying live entertainment in the Riverside Club House on the eve of the show. The location, just 100 yards off Junction 45 of the M4, although you cannot hear the motorway traffic from the show ground, camping facilities, support from local businesses, stall holders, visitors and exhibitors have all helped establish this event as a ‘must do’ on the classic show calender.

Although not purely an American show it was Yank wheels that dominated the show with plenty from across the Pond spanning an incredible 117 years the oldest being a 1908 Buick and vehicles from every decade since. Exhibits from American clubs Swansea American Autos, AACUK, American Muscle Cars Wales, UK 911 and Outkasts offered a diverse selection of vehicles to drool over and a large range of American WW2 military vehicles from the Military Vehicle Trust with their owners suitably attired.

The weather gods were fair to the organisers with only a ten minute light shower at three o’clock immediately followed by bright sunshine that dried all the exhibits before home time.

First class entertainment was provided by international singing star and Royal Marines Forces Sweetheart Kirsten Osbourn and top rock n roll band The Buzzcuts who brought out the jivers in the crowd with their fifties covers set.

A large selection of trade stalls catered for everyone’s needs selling everything from whiskey to fashions, the autojumble was a must in the search for that elusive part and the car boot sale where one man’s crap is another’s treasure.

Wales Air Ambulance was the chosen charity this year and offered the chauffeur driven hire of a 1960 Cadillac Sedan De Ville as a raffle prize courtesy of Pops Car Hire, better than a ride in their helicopter. Show sponsors Lloyd and Whyte Community Broking (classic car insurance specialists) kindly matched the amount of money raised on the day by Wales Air Ambulance.

The organisers seemed to think of everything and even provided water, for the cars not the owners, and a free jump start service to anyone stuck at finishing time. A tractor was on standby in case any the heavier vehicles lost traction but was not needed as the ground remained firm despite three days of rain before show day.

Award for Best in Show was chosen by Kirsten Osbourn and went to Peter Wilcox with his 1965 Corvette C2 which has been subject to a three year nut and bolt restoration done in Peter’s garage at home, the full story can be seen on his YouTube page: Peters 1965 Corvette. Unfortunately Peter left before the winners were announced but will be given his trophy at the next Swansea American Autos Meet.

All exhibitors were rewarded with a Field of Dreams fridge magnet as a momentum of their day.

‘If you organise it they will come’ certainly seems to be the case at this ‘Field of Dreams’.

Look out for Field of Dreams V next year.
