2024 marks the 65th anniversary of the Marcos Marque. Jem Marsh and Frank Costin took the first three letters of their surnames to devise a name for the new company founding the Marcos marque in 1959. Like many of the other small British manufacturers around this time Marcos earned its reputation on the racetrack. This continued through the 60s with entries to Le Mans and onto 1995 when Marcos once again took to the track at Le Mans. 2025 marks the 30th Anniversary of this return of Marcos to the track.
Whether they be used as daily transport or cleaned and polished and taken to shows around the country, they are all special and this is just one example of Pride of Ownership.
“We have owned our Marcos LM500 NCK spyder since 1999 and Darren has always “made do” with it being a spyder, because his dream really was a coupé as he had originally fallen in love with the LM500 race car. Now LM500s with the NCK prepared 5000cc engine were rare enough, with only about 15/16 being made, let alone a coupé. Then, one fateful morning, sat having breakfast at the annual CMI Rally in 2022, a good friend who used to work for Marcos, said “Did you know that you can have your spyder converted into a coupé?” Well that was it, after some lengthy discussions and soul searching, the decision was made – she would become the coupé Darren had always wanted!
In March 2023 she went off to Wiltshire for her transformation. A few hiccups along the way would result in us being without the car for much longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait – we love the transformation and she now resembles the Marcos race cars we used to watch race back in the 90s!
Our Marcos LM500 (coupé) will be on the Club Marcos International stand, 2-460, at the NEC Classic Motor Show in November.”
