In response, StarterMotor works to inspire, support and connect the next generation of talent with opportunities across the sector. Working closely with schools, colleges, universities and educational partners such as the British Motor Museum, the charity identifies young people, primarily from Generation Z, who have a passion for classic vehicles and an interest in exploring careers within the industry.
We engage young enthusiasts through careers events, major classic motoring shows and targeted social media campaigns. Once connected, we provide tailored one-to-one support including CV development, interview preparation, job application guidance and advice on career pathways and potential employers.
Our impact is both measurable and growing. In 2025, StarterMotor provided one-to-one mentoring to 30 students, facilitated 25 work experience placements and engaged more than 2,100 young people through 16 careers events. In 2026, the charity is on course to significantly exceed those figures, having already supported 50 students through mentoring, secured over 20 work experience placements totalling more than 83 days, and reached over 5,800 students through its activities*.
Despite being led by a small two-person team, StarterMotor has built a strong reputation for collaboration across the industry. Sponsors and partners include Bicester Motion, Chubb, Hagerty and Jaguar Land Rover Classic, all of whom support the development of future talent. We also work alongside organisations such as the Vintage Sports-Car Club, Motor Racing Legends, Silverstone, leading museums, independent restoration businesses and historic race teams, whose expertise, benefit-in-kind support and work experience opportunities help create meaningful pathways into the sector for young people.
