1937 SS Jaguar 100, Russ Swift

You might know the owner as a famous stunt driver, but along with his skills behind the wheel he’s long been an admirer of fine cars. And with such a fascinating history it’s obvious why he was drawn to this stunning example of the legendary British marque.

That history includes competing in the 1937 Monte Carlo Rally in the hands of J.F.C. Wellings - a friend of Jaguar co-founder, William Lyons -  where it finished in 31st place overall, and third in the post-rally concours.

“I’d wanted to own one of these cars since childhood and can remember drawing pictures of them in my school books. I first encountered this one at the British Grand Prix in 1988 where I was performing displays, and spotted it as part of a track parade.” Russ had found his dream car.

He goes on to say that between 1966 and 1984 it was on display at the Midland Motor Museum and Stratford-upon-Avon Motor Museum, and that it had only covered 6000 miles since its restoration in 1973. Since buying the car last year he has added another 1500 miles to that total, and it has already appeared at many events this year.

It is easy to see why it has won multiple awards, been featured in a number of motoring publications and been photographed for the library of the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, as an example of the definitive SS Jaguar 100. It’s most recent trophy in Russ’s ownership is as winner of the People’s Choice and Best SS 100 at this year’s Jaguar Drivers’ Club National Day Concours.

This stunning example is a real treat for enthusiasts of the famous marque, and we are certainly thrilled to have it at this year’s show. It’s absolutely beautiful.
