These Ford saloons were once a common sight on UK roads, but now they are very much a rarity, which makes this superb example all the more interesting. The owner has always liked them and bought this one last year.

“I had quite a back few in the 1980s and 1990s, and really wanted another, and as the registration number has my wife’s initials - and it’s the same age as she is - I couldn’t resist buying this one. I got it from a private seller in London and not only is the mileage low but it’s only had two previous owners.”

The wonderfully original condition inside and out is clear to see, but Carl did undertake some repairs to make it perfect. They included attention to the boot lid and one of the rear doors, and a full respray to bring the paintwork back to its best. He serviced the engine, including renewal of important items like the cam belt and water pump, and despite being off the road for more than ten years it flew through its MOT test with no advisories.

The owner particularly likes the originality of this rare Mk 1 model, and even items such as the radio are just as it left the production line all those years ago. Adding to the rarity is the fact that it has automatic transmission, Carl saying there are only a handful of these left on the road.

He’s recently joined a Ford Club where the car gets plenty of attention, and we love the fact that this superb Ford is forty years old. Just like the show! It’s an ideal entrant for this year’s award, then, and one we think will bring back more than a few memories for visitors.
