The E24 generation BMW 6 Series is a very desirable classic, offering style and

performance, but to say this one stands out from the crowd would be something of an understatement. The German firm of Koenig was known for its exotic and very expensive machinery, and this particular car is very rare.

“Only two were produced”, says Tahmid “and this one was displayed for around ten years at the London Motor Museum. That’s where I first saw it, but it’s early history is a bit of a mystery although I do know it cost the equivalent of €50,000 to build in 1986.” Perhaps the cost is no surprise when you see the extravagant body kit and wide BBS split-rim wheels.

The owner is a huge fan of BMWs, especially rare ones, and he owns a total of four Koenig Specials models. This eye-catching coupe was subjected to an extensive recommissioning process. Lack of use had caused problems, so work included a thorough overhaul of the brake and cooling systems, new manifold and much more to ensure it was turn-key ready.

Tahmid explains that one of the biggest challenges was sourcing the original front wheels. They had been sold many years before and the ones fitted in their place didn’t look good at all, and after a month of searching he found what he needed. “They were in Manchester and being sold by the person who had bought the originals 20 years ago!”

With the car now in fine fettle, he has spent the summer taking it to shows, covering almost 2000 miles in the process. It certainly gets a lot of attention, as you might expect, and we think this ‘80s classic deserves plenty of interest at this year’s show. You can follow his journey on Instagram ‘@M635BMW’.
