1949 Jaguar MkV Saloon
This elegant 1949 MkV Saloon has enjoyed a fascinating international journey. Exported to Australia when new, it spent much of its early life around the Brisbane area, where it remained for several decades. In 1994, the car underwent a comprehensive restoration and was refinished in a striking Burgundy and Cream colour scheme. As part of the restoration, the suspension was lowered and the car was fitted with cutaway rear spats, giving it a sleeker and more sporting appearance, very much in the spirit of William Lyons' styling philosophy. It was then cherished by the same family for many years before making the trip back to its homeland.
The current owner imported the car to the UK in 2006 and returned it to its original all-cream livery. Since then, it has become a familiar and much admired sight at weddings, classic car rallies and touring events across the country. More than just a showpiece, it remains a regularly used and well-loved motor car, continuing to cover miles in the manner its designers intended over 75 years ago.
One of the Jaguar’s greatest qualities is the effortless driving experience it offers. Its smooth ride and relaxed cruising ability make it a pleasure to drive on modern roads, happily maintaining 65-70 mph in fifth gear. Wherever it appears, the car attracts attention and admiration, with its distinctive styling and timeless elegance sparking conversations among enthusiasts and the wider public alike.
Today, valued at around £30,000, this car represents not only an important piece of British motoring history but also a testament to the enjoyment that comes from preserving, driving and sharing a classic car with others. Most recently it was awarded the Salon Privé Club Trophy at Blenheim Palace, having been selected by the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club.
