1959 Ford Edsel Ranger

My 1959 Edsel Ranger, affectionately known as Eddie, was built in Louisville, Kentucky. Originally owned by Jeff Sledge, President of the Edsel Owners Club in the USA, the car was brought to the UK in 1997 by Eddie and Sandra Clarkson following Jeff's passing. At the time it had covered just 37,000 miles. Today, it has recently passed 50,000 miles.

The car has enjoyed an interesting life in the UK, winning numerous show trophies and later appearing at the NEC Classic Motor Show and in several film and television productions. In November 2025, I visited the NEC simply to enjoy the show and had no intention of buying a car. Then I spotted Eddie in the Iconic Auctioneers sale. I immediately fell in love with its condition and elegance, registered to bid that same day and was lucky enough to take it home.

Since buying the car, I've carried out much of the restoration and maintenance work myself, including rebuilding the dynamo, repairing the cooling system, fitting new carpets, deep-cleaning the interior and refinishing parts of the engine bay and floor. Keeping Eddie in top condition has become a real labour of love.

I'm proud to be only the third UK owner of this remarkable Edsel. It is the seventh American car I've owned, having driven classics since I was 16 years old. In 2026, Eddie was awarded 2nd Place in the MotoFest Coventry Concours, and throughout the summer you'll often find us attending local shows around Coventry.

Of all the cars I've owned, Eddie is probably the one I'm most attached to. What started as an unexpected auction purchase has become a true passion.
