Ducati race bikes ridden by Bostrom, Corser, Checa and Rutter head for Iconic Auctioneers’ NEC sale

The factory Ducati 916 raced by Troy Corser during the 1998 World Superbike Championship leads a selection of four competition Ducatis coming to Iconic Auctioneers’ Iconic Motorcycle Sale at the NEC Classic Motor Show on Sunday 15 November. With estimates starting at £70,000, the motorcycles offer collectors the opportunity to acquire genuine racing machinery associated with some of the marque’s best-known riders.

One of six machines produced for Ducati’s 1998 World Superbike campaign, the ex-Corser 916 is from a season in which the Australian led the championship into the final round, where an injury meant he couldn’t compete, handing victory to fellow Ducati rider, Carl Fogarty. The works machine remains in highly original, unrestored condition, retaining most of its original factory components. Presented in running order, it is accompanied by a Ducati Corse Declaration of Authenticity confirming its factory status and a signed 1998 yearbook (estimate: £110,000 - £140,000).

The 2012 Ducati 1198RS12 was campaigned by Carlos Checa during a World Superbike season that brought victory at Phillip Island and fourth place in the championship. A factory-built and supported machine, it raced under the RS designation during a period when Ducati had no official works team in the series. Highly original and in running order, it comes with a Ducati Motor Holding Certificate of Originality, factory download cables and spare OZ magnesium wheels (estimate: £110,000 - £150,000).

A ‘Team Renegade Red Bull’ 2003 Ducati 998RS brings a connection to Leon Haslam’s early Superbike career, having been used by him at selected later British Superbike rounds. Michael Rutter also raced the motorcycle, winning at Mallory Park and taking victory and the lap record at the 2003 Macau Grand Prix. Featuring the 998cc Testastretta engine, K-Tech suspension and bespoke carbon and magnesium components, it is presented in highly original, complete condition and running order, it is accompanied by the Macau and Mallory Park winning trophies, Rutter’s Macau helmet and a lap time folder (estimate: £70,000 - £90,000).

Built by Ducati specifically for Eric Bostrom’s 2004 Daytona 200 challenge, the Ducati 999 AMA Superbike took pole position, setting a new lap record, and led the opening 41 laps, before an oil cooling problem forced its retirement. Its AMA specification includes dual fast fuel-fillers and a quick-release wheel system, reflecting the demands of the event. Still very original and in running order, it comes with its factory pit lifting and refuelling rigs and a Ducati Motor Holding Certificate of Originality (estimate: £110,000 - £140,000).

Mark Bryan, Motorcycle Manager at Iconic Auctioneers, said: “These Ducatis have the competition history that collectors look for, with much of their original specification still intact. The trophies, factory equipment and documentation accompanying them add considerably to their appeal. Each has its own story, from Rutter’s Macau victory to Bostrom’s charge at Daytona, and they make a fitting addition to the wider range of collectors’ motorcycles in our NEC sale.”

The Iconic Motorcycle Sale takes place on Sunday 15 November 2026 from 10.30am at the NEC Classic Motor Show in Birmingham.  Bidders are encouraged to register in advance. Further details on each motorcycle and registration to bid can be found at www.iconicauctioneers.com.
